Crist effectively has banned new coal power plants in Florida because of their carbon emissions. The move to natural gas is national and only will grow with talk of a carbon tax. Now that Crist has pulled the plug on coal, the Public Service Commission projects that natural gas will provide a whopping 55 percent of our power by 2015. As a fuel source, natural gas costs about twice as much as coal. There are known deposits of trillions of cubic feet of natural gas under the sea floor out there, enough to power Florida for decades. is that big a problem, then slowing it with some benign gas rigs off our coast is a harmless price to pay. read more
