Global Hydrologist to lecture on effects on earth warming - Quad-Cities Online- Topic: global warming news
Rock Island, IL— Climate change in the Arctic affects more than just walruses and polar bears—its influences may trickle down to the water resources in any hometown. Tamlin Pavelsky from the University of North Carolina for a lecture titled "The Hydrologic Cycle in a Changing Arctic," on Thursday, March 18, at 7 p. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will address how rising temperatures at the Earth's poles are changing the balance of vital water resources in the Arctic and across the entire planet. During his lecture, Pavelsky will explain how global warming is disturbing the basic flow and structure of Arctic lakes, rivers and wetlands, and how these changes affect plants, animals and people around the world. The Center for Polar Studies opened in December 2009 and promotes the polar research of students and faculty members, supports undergraduate courses in polar studies, and sponsors lectures, conferences and academic trips to the polar regions.
