Global Warming Myths

There are several myths that rise against global warming, most of which presents that global warming is not much of a problem as it is. The environmental point of view shares that global warming pose a great concern to our environment. However, there are also studies that show otherwise. Perhaps, these myths give a little consolation that global warming is not as much of a problem as terrorism, hunger, poverty, or other political and social crisis. Take for example the article from the National Center for Policy Analysis. It cited 4 major myths: earth is warming, humans cause global warming, government has the responsibility to stop the said phenomena, and there will be cataclysmic environmental problem for global warming cause by humans. These are argued in the basis of some statistical and scientific research that proves otherwise which at the end concludes that policy made from the government should be based on facts rather than on these myths. These myths are also disapproved in the article by the Association of British Drivers in the article "Green Myths on Global Warming- Debunked". On the contrary, however, the facts presented here are shown as myths in the environmental defense which diverts the fact otherwise.

Amidst the criticism on global warming, there is one certain point. Global warming is today's fact. Its phenomena cause great concern on how our generations live today. So the following could a basis on the real myths and facts.

One of these myths is that science believed that global warming is a vague study to be acted upon by the society. The fact to the matter is, scientist does not argue about the definition, cause, effect and possible solution to the growing problem. The government and other concerned organizations are trying to disseminate the information to the businesses and even individuals prevent or stop further damage to our environment. Another fabricated view about global warming is that complying with government regulations to help stop global warming will have negative effect on the industry and will affect the economy because of reduced carbon use and heat trapping emissions. However, research shows that most companies find it cost effective when using greenhouse gas reduction program. One study shows that a modest cap-and-trade system results in $20 less cost per household every year. It further shows that employment was not affected negatively. Further, properly planned emissions trading programs help minimize compliance costs.

These myths are discussed here because this addresses the concern on global warming in relation to economic growth and development. At the end, the issue on global warming is still too important to be ignored as this does not only affect our environment but may also affect our future health and way of life.
