Global Warming ConcertLive Earth Live Earth was a 24-hour, concurrent concert held on the 7th of July, 2007 (7/7/07) spanning 7-continents that brought together over 150 musical acts and about 2 billion people to trigger a global movement to solve the climate crisis. The concert was founded under the Save Our Selves (SOS) Campaign, the group founded by Kevin Wall (Emmy-winning producer, entrepreneur, and the worldwide executive producer of Live 8), and includes major partnerships with former US Vice President Al Gore, the Alliance for Climate Protection, MSN and Control Room, a concert production company producing Live Earth. The concert featured artists such as Madonna, Kanye West, Shakira, Lenny Kravitz, The Police, Bon Jovi, Dave Matthews Band, Smashing Pumpkins and many other stars. It also included more than 7,000 other registered events worldwide all intended to support the cause. More than 60 short films and public service announcements were viewed featuring stars such as Cameron Diaz and Penelope Cruz. The concert was broadcasted to mass audience globally through powerful multimedia platforms such as radio, televisions, films, television, radio, and the Internet. The message Live Earth launched a multi-year campaign directed to drive individuals, corporations and governments to take action in solving global warming. Everyone who participated in Live Earth was encouraged to take the 7-point Live Earth pledge under the Live Earth Call to Action campaign: 1. To demand that my country join an international treaty within the next two years that cuts global-warming pollution by 90 percent in developed countries and by more than half worldwide in time for the next generation to inherit a healthy earth; 2. To take personal action to help solve the climate crises by reducing my own CO2 pollution as much as I can and offsetting the rest to become "carbon neutral"; 3. To fight for a moratorium on the construction of any new generating facility that burns coal without the capacity to safely trap and store the CO2; 4. To work for a dramatic increase in the energy efficiency of my home, workplace, school, place of worship, and means of transportation; 5. To fight for laws and policies that expand the use of renewable energy sources and reduce dependence on oil and coal; 6. To plant new trees and to join with others in preserving and protecting forests; and, 7. To buy from businesses and support leaders who share my commitment to solving the climate crises and building a sustainable, just, and prosperous world for the 21st century.
